What is TIP?

The purpose of this program is to give our elite and talented players, targeted and holistic training and opportunities over the summer whilst working on consolidating and mastering their basic skills.  The focus is on individual development, before progression of team tactics/systems.

The 2023 program has been written to reflect the changes and demands in netball that have occurred over the last few years, most notably the continued extension of State Age to include a Senior competition.  Therefore, our program has been expanded to include all age groups and to focus on the development, fine tuning, and extension of holistic skills all netballers must have.

As a result, included in the 2023 program are a variety of specialists to give players a greater appreciation of what is involved in being a player competing at an elite level.

The TIP program operates during BNA’s Summer Night Season (October – November 2023) each year and this is for both training and fixtures. Please note 2023 Summer Season will most likely be a short season for this year only due to BNA court resurfacing project but is subject to change pending confirmation of start date of these works.

TIP Process

Players must nominate, attend trials, and then be selected to participate in the TIP program.

All players who nominate and are successful in being selected in the TIP program are also required to nominate and trial for a Brisbane Netball Association 2024 representative team and to play in a BNA Rep team if selected.  Failure to do so may incur a 12 month ban to trial and play in a BNA Rep team as per the BNA Rep Selection Policy. All Rep players are also required to play with an affiliated BNA Club in the BNA Winter Day Season.

Please note being selected for a TIP team, does not guarantee the player a place in a Rep team.

2 teams of 10 players per Junior Age Group will be selected to play as a TIP team, and a further team of ten players per age group will be selected as a training team, if sufficient nominations are received of the required standard. These players would be invited to be involved in most of the individual development and skill sessions conducted on a Monday night but would play fixtures with their BNA Club team and not a BNA TIP team.

For the Senior Age Groups, the TIP players selected would remain playing for their club in the 2023 Summer Season but would be selected in Age Group squads to train on a Monday night and participate in a Quad Series carnival against other Associations. The intent is to select three teams per Age Group (15, 16 and 17/18) for Quad Series, if sufficient nominations are received of the required standard.

TIP Coaching

During the TIP program, players are coached by experienced BNA representative coaches who will focus on mastering essential skills as well as extending and furthering individual development to see players perform at the next level.

Specialty coaches will be brought in to further support the learning and development of players both on and off the court.

TIP is not just about strengthening our players but also strengthening and developing our coaches.  As a result, coaches will be asked to nominate to be involved in furthering their skills to support the development of players.  We will be looking to have coaches participate in two levels:

 ·         Head Coaches

 ·         Assistant Coaches

TIP Training

Training during the TIP program will be high intensity (including weekly strength and conditioning work) and will prepare players for the next step into representative netball or provide further development for players who have already played representative netball.

All TIP training sessions are conducted on Monday nights for approximately 2 hours between the hours of 5.00pm and 8.30pm (determined once teams selected and coaches appointed).

Training commences on 2nd October 2023 and continues through to 20th of November 2023.

The training program includes:

  ·        Shooting specialist sessions

 ·         Defence specialist sessions

 ·         Mid-court specialist sessions

 ·         Strength and conditioning

 ·         Mental Resilience session

TIP Fixtures

In addition to training, players selected in Junior TIP teams will compete in the BNA 2023 Summer Night Season competition and will generally play in a higher age-group or division than they would play in their club teams. Games will be held on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, depending on the age group/division in which the player is competing.

Inters teams will play on Tuesday night and Opens teams will play on Wednesday night. Generally, the 12 and 13 age groups will play in Inters and the 14 age groups will play in Opens, but this depends on the strength of the team. This will be decided by Rep Selectors in conjunction with Coaches as to the level they will play at.
